File not found

The file you attempted to access does not exist.  There are several innocent causes for this.

  1. The most likely cause is that the page you were trying to find no longer exists on our web site.
  2. You may have entered the file or directory name incorrectly.
  3. A search engine that links you to our web site points to a page that no longer exists or has been renamed.
  4. There may be a broken link on our site that we need to fix.

Please be assured that these kinds of accidental 'not found' errors are very obvious to us when we view our log files, so please don't be concerned about being reported to your ISP for possible hacking attempts.  We do not report these kinds of innocent 'not found' situations.

Warning to those who are genuinely trying to hack our web site or probe it for vulnerabilities

If however you were attempting to hack our web site by trying to find files that are known to be vulnerable to hacking attempts, this too will be obvious to us.  In such cases, we will will report your IP address to your internet service provider. Tracking of your IP address is something that happens automatically on almost any web site you visit.  We can't turn if off even if we want to.  Examples of how this kind of true abuse of our web site happens are listed below.

  1. You attempted to list the contents of a directory.  Directory listings have been deactivated for security reasons.  In some cases, hackers will do this to check for certain vulnerabilities.  If this is the only questionable access that occurred, we probably will not report it to your ISP unless it happens over and over again.  However, if other suspicious accesses occurred, you will be reported.  Again, the suspicious accesses are very obvious to us in our log files.  If you weren't trying to hack us, you have nothing to be concerned about.

  2. You are trying to hack our web site by probing it for vulnerabilities, but didn't find what you were looking for (see warning below about this).  About 20% of the "not found" errors our web site experiences fall into this category.  That is why we have decided to put the warning below on this page.

WARNING:  If you reached this page because you were trying to access private sections of our web site, such as form based e-mail, script files, etc., we consider that to be an abuse, and an attempted hack of our site.  You will be reported to your ISP's abuse@ e-mail address the first time it happens.  Depending upon the seriousness and frequency of the incident(s), you may also be reported to the FBI's NIPC.  If this was an innocent access such as keying in a file name incorrectly, or being directed by a search engine like Google to a page that used to exist on our site but no longer does, you need not be concerned.  As explained in the top section above, the difference between innocent access and a real hacking attempt that results in a "not found" error is obvious to us.
