Special guest appearances

For those of you who just can't get enough of me going on and on about the cruddy Minnesota Twins deal, the Minneapolis City Pages has an interview with me in this week's issue. (Actually, the print edition has an excerpt; web readers get the full version. Don't you feel special?)

And for those of you who would like to hear me go on and on about cruddy stadium deals in person - and who happen to live in or near Philadelphia - I'll be at the Rotunda, 4014 Walnut Street in Philly, on July 6 at 7 pm, along with the fabulous Dave Zirin. It's a free event, and we'll have books for sale; contact Bindlestiff Books (215-222-2432, events(at)bindlestiffbooks.com) for more info.

Thanks for your hard work. Intelligent debate is missing from stadium conversations. Team owners can hire too many lobbyists. Local media sells too many sports pages to be objective. And the hard-working taxpayers get the raw end of the stick. The tide is turning against pro sports subsidies. Just because the elected morons in Minnesota haven't figured it yet doesn't mean it isn't happening. Thanks for trying your best to educate people. Good Luck!!

I'd like to seconded the thoughts of the previous poster. Your site led me to many articles that refuted commonly held beliefs. In the end, they never won on facts, but on the "Holy Grail" of emotion in MN: "Quality Of Life"!

My BIL called me early this morning to report the gist of a conversation between a local radio reporter, Eric Eskola, and S. Hartman. Hartman mentioned that the Metrodome should not be torn down; if can be used for rainy days! He just can't stop being a shill!

How many blocks would the new Twins' ballpark be from the Metrodome? What kind of weather would qualify for "rainy days"? How would people with tickets in the new ballpark find their seat in the dome? Would it be general admission by ticket price range? (Not to mention scores of other logistical problems -- staffing and opening concession stands and the like.) This isn't exactly like the Indians of the '30s and '40s splitting time between Municipal Stadium and League Park; at least those dates were scheduled in advance. Sid, stop being ridiculous.
