Jets/Giants stadium hits $1.4B
Throw another $200 million on the fire: The price tag on the world's most expensive sports stadium, a joint venture that would be home to both the New York Jets and Giants, has risen from $1.2 billion to $1.4 billion. Still no indication of how high the project costs can run before it becomes unviable - groundbreaking is expected in "late spring or early summer," according to AP - though the current stadium naming-rights bubble could help lessen the blow.
What's wrong with Giants stadium?? I don't get it.
Posted by: eddie on January 27, 2007 02:05 PMNot enough luxury boxes for the giants. This stadium is going to cost 2 billion dollars before it is all said and done. The jets were better off in queens.
Posted by: dan on January 27, 2007 11:37 PMThere is nothing WRONG with the stadium now that $200 million in upgrades couldn't fix. The Jets would have been better off in Queens with a joint NFL / MLS stadium in Flushing Meadows Park / Willets Point.
Posted by: Bertell Ollman on January 28, 2007 12:38 AMWhy spend $200 million in upgrades when you can get a new stadium for the same price or more.
An MLS New York franchise would want a soccer-only stadium.
Posted by: Daniel F. on January 29, 2007 06:02 PMWhenthe jets supposely had interest in queens they were talking about having a mls soccer there too. They had article in newsday about it.
