Giants buy back stadium bonds

So much for that stadium debt crisis blowing over quickly: Two weeks after it was revealed that some of the New York Giants' stadium bonds had hit 22% in interest rates, the team announced yesterday it was redeeming $100 million worth of auction-rate stadium bonds to get out from under the crushing interest payments. That's not a sign of an organization that expects the bond market to return to normal anytime soon.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, meanwhile, has cited the increased stadium bonds as one reason why league owners will likely vote to opt out of their labor agreement this fall, likely precipitating a player strike. Why the players should have to pay the price for the owners' risky borrowing schemes he didn't make clear - though if the Giants' owners are turning to Jeremy Shockey for financial advice, that would explain a lot.

It is really time for the giants and the jets to call themselves new jersey giants and jersey jets. How about new york getting there own team .The nfl is a joke they dont have a team in the biggest market in ny and the second biggest market in los angeles. Ihope there is a guy that comes with another football league. The nfl is getting boring

Um the Giants and Jets play in the NY market. The NY market includes LI, part of upstate NY, much of northern and central NJ and parts of CT. If you use your "logic" the NFL also doesn't have teams in the following "markets":

Washington, DC
Dallas
Buffalo
Phoenix
Miami

When obviously they do. After all the money the city is wasting on stadiums for the Yankees and Mets plus Ratner's folly in Brooklyn and whatever ends up happening with a new MSG the last thing they need to do is throw money at a new football stadium to compete with one 10 miles away.

The nfl doesnt have teams in dallas, phoenix, washington d.c. buffalo either. It's a joke they have teams that truly don't play in the cities they dont play in. Are you kidding me that a nfl team that would play in ny couldnt compete with a stadium in jersey. You are kidding right. If the jets and giants took there ny name out of their title people wouldnt care about them. Woody will most likely change the name of the jets to new jersey jets
