Sports bubble watch: Mets ticket discounts

The New York Mets, who've so far managed to duck the criticism the Yankees have got despite their own sky-high ticket prices and empty seats behind home plate, sent out an email yesterday offering field-level tickets to their upcoming homestand for as much as 33% off. (Which still isn't as good as StubHub, especially given all the Ticketmaster fees the team tacks on, but it's closer.) Meal deals, here we come.

COMMENTS

They don't use Ticketmaster, but the service they use still has plenty of fees. But then again, so does Stubhub.

PS at least they don't charge for printing your own tickets like Ticketmaster does.

The Mets fees on the tickets I looked at were $6/ticket plus like another $5 for the whole order. StubHub was much lower, especially now that you can print at home instead of using FedEx (which charged me $15, then helpfully delivered the tickets to the house next door).

I just saw the hilarious "Sports Bubble" story in the Onion:

"Slashed Ticket Prices Allow Lesser Nobility To Attend Yankees Games"
Here's an outtake:

"They certainly are caught up in their history," said Her Preeminence the Contessa Lady Persephone-Fontlesbury du Wadicourt, whose 19-times-great uncle was given his lands, coat of arms, and title by King Philip VI for his role as a footman at the Battle of Crécy, and whose castle doubles as a national museum. "Witness the monument garden and those retired numbers. And the statuary! Really, it's all a bit ostentatious, if I'm honest."
LOL. Gotta love it.

They do charge to print your tickets... $2.50... I am a Mets fan, but I am really happy to see all of those empty seats. A ticket to a damn ball game should be no higher than $50!!!

I cannot believe what the Mets are doing. Here myself and friends spend tens of thousands of dollars on season tickets and they go and sell the same seat catogory as I have but with a 30% discount. What a FOOL we are.I have been a faithful and loyal fan who goes to the games and spends my money for full season tickets and than they go ahead with discounts. Why didn't they give season ticket holders a refund for these games the difference.Tickets are way over price as it is.Wait till next year when there is a revolt among season ticket holders. The new stadium will have worn off by than.I already know a bunch of season ticket holders like myself who won't be renewing next year. These discounts so far have total 9 games.Season ticket holders are watching.
