So the Seattle city council didn’t discuss the proposed NBA arena today, at their last scheduled meeting before their summer vacation. And now we have this from Chris Hansen himself:
Hey Everyone,
Our recent conversations with the City Council have been very productive and I am committed to continuing the discussion. I hope we’ll soon reach an agreement that will put us on track to bring NBA basketball back to Seattle.
I don’t know about you, but to me that reads as: “We’re still talking, but don’t wait up or anything.” There’s still probably a decent chance of an agreement, but September looks more likely than this week.
[UPDATE: And it’s official. September it is.]
If Seattle doesnt do the deal, why not try El Paso where they will gift you the land under city hall and pay the whole thing. Also stick the public with office rental bills before they eminent domain some property owners for the new city hall they’ll need to build . And thats for a minor league baseball team.
Today was the last scheduled full council meeting, which is needed to fully sign off on the arena measure. The arena measure is still in the government performance and finance subcommittee which will meet on Wednesday. However, the latest council agenda (and messages from Burgess who heads the subcommittee) indicate it won’t be taken up… they’re still working out details and negotiating.

These discussions are continuing in a fruitful manner. We will continue our deliberations of the legislative package as quickly as possible, but a matter of this significance requires very careful and thorough consideration.
As a result, the proposed arena is not on the agenda for this Wednesday’s Government Performance and Finance Committee meeting. The Committee will consider the arena legislation again in September.
Your “It’s Official” link doesn’t work.
Also, I tried commenting from the mobile version of your page, and it didn’t work. Something about the content being empty (but really, I did type text).
I sure like your new look(s) and feel(s), though.
“It’s official” link works now, sorry about that.
As for posting via the mobile version, I made some changes this weekend that should have fixed that. If anyone is still having trouble, please email me directly with your phone OS type and exact error message and I’ll look into it.
Testing…
Yay!
