Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis has declared his dedication to Oakland in classic sports owner form: By talking about how tempting it is for him to move his team elsewhere.
“We are trying everything possible to get something done in Oakland right on the same exact site we’re on right now,” Davis said. “And I’d say 99 percent of my interests and energy are going towards getting something done there. That’s really the crux of it right now. People want to know about the other sites and there are always options. But we want to get something done in Oakland.”…
“We want to stay here in Oakland,” Davis said. “There’s other opportunities that would be much more lucrative for us, to be real honest. But we are really trying to get something done in Oakland. We want a stadium the fans and the team can be proud of.”
That’s all apparently an attempt to defuse the media uproar over Davis’s statement last week that Los Angeles would be a “great option” for the Raiders, though “defuse” could also here mean “use it simultaneously as leverage and as a way to paint himself as devoted to his hometown.” Unless they can’t “get something done,” in which case, screw Oakland.
Davis also reiterated that “we’re not asking for public money” for actual stadium construction, just free development rights to the site and infrastructure work to ready the site for construction and paying off the remaining debt on the Coliseum, which could come to around $670 million, or maybe $1.1 billion. But so long as those little details are taken care of, he just loves Oakland to bits, okay?
Marc Davis has to be the worst poker player in California. Nobody believes you can move to San Antonio or that you want to. Nobody believes Jerry Jones or Houston are going to allow you to step foot in Texas. Nobody in Oakland is going to give you development rights when you have no record of developing a damn thing.
Just sell an interest to AEG and work out a deal with the NFL. Only God knows why, but L.A. fans still remember the Raiders fondly. You will double your teams worth the instant you move. All you have to do is figure out how much you are willing to give to AEG and the NFL.
If you stay in Oakland, your team is worth a $1 billion. If you move to L.A., lets say $2 billion if you move alone, or $1.5 if you share the market with the Rams. Cut the league and AEG 10% each and your share would still be $1.8 B or $1.35 and that is not including all the extra monies you will make as a partner in the extra events held in the $2 B stadium. For once, stop being stupid.
Oakland is where the Raiders started & belong. Did everyone forget about the problems they had in LA. Or how the Raiders went from being the lunch bucket guy to gang member guy. Todd Christianson in an interview he & other players would not let families go to home game because of violence in stands. School kids were not aloud to wear Raider gear because they were getting beatup for it. Did we forget about the riot in the stands in I believe was 1989. Even Al Davis said in an interview when he moved back that it was a mistake to leave Oakland. The infrastructure in Oakland is perfect. You have bus transit, BART train to stadium + now tram from Oakland airport to stadium. Weather cool not hell hot. Dubi group of investors are in negotiations for backing new stadium in Oakland.The Raiders have a 11 yr streak of losing. During that time in LA they would draw 30k per game because you folks only support winning teams. Hell in Oakland Davis is still drawing 50k plus. That is why the Rams need to go back to LA and if the commish wants another put the Chargers there. That’s where they started.
Wins one game this year and suddenly he has clarity.
Los angeles = new stadium, money and strong fan base.
Oakland=sewage and a dirt field.
