  1. Nissan Stadium was good enough for Taylor Swift, hence it’s good enough for Nashville and good enough for the Tennessee Titans.

  2. I couldn’t read the Hartman bit without having the closing credits from Animal House play in my head…. “Senator and Mrs. John Blutarsky…”

  3. Obviously you haven’t been to the stadium yourself. And you don’t like football. Titans need a new staduim and if the people of Tennessee would take their conservative fingers out of their butts and get into the 21st century.

    1. If the Titans need a new stadium (or just think they do) then they should find a way to build and pay for one – including the purchase of the land on which it will be built.

The only reason this is an issue is that they want other people to pay for their new toy.

Why shouldn’t the people of Tennessee have a say in how their tax dollars are spent (and on what)? Isn’t that democracy in action?

    2. I was literally stunned by your post.
      Stunned I tell you!
Then I started laughing! A lot!
      Thanks!

  4. I guess we will be seeing three ex politicians joining the Titans organization soon…..

  5. I’m the furthest thing from a conservative living here in TN and hate the stadium deal. We have roads riddled with potholes, kids that cant read, no public transit, and a 1300 Sq ft ranch costs $700k in the city limits. Sometimes it’s really not about politics and is about common sense. The world will go on without a new football stadium- not where tax dollars should be going.

  6. I think people are being short sighted. With the new stadium the money will be raised by an increased hotel tax (most people living in Nashville are not staying in Nashville hotels), sales tax on sales at the stadium, more event options that can be hosted there, and connected properties that will make up a great Game Day experience rents and sales taxes! PLUS, with the new stadium we get a shot at some big events bringing in big money! A superbowl $$$, more concerts $$$, bigger cma fest $$$, world cup $$$. The draft was awesome, I’d love for it to come back and to get a superbowl!

    1. Plenty of experts have run the numbers on whether new tax revenue will come anywhere close to paying off the public’s $1.2 billion, and come up with a resounding “hell nah.” Super Bowls and other one-time megaevents aren’t that lucrative (since they’re one-time), and sales and hotel taxes on money being spent at a new stadium that would otherwise have been spent at the old stadium are just a wash. There’s absolutely no way this even comes close to paying for itself.

    2. Glendale loses money every time it hosts a Super Bowl. So will Nashville. Those $$$ aren’t going into the public’s pocket. But as Hemingway said, “Isn’t it pretty to think so?”

  7. Did someone do a focus group and find that “bare-bones” adjective for an arena or stadium works somehow better now when trying to get someone else to pay for a new one? I’ve seen it more and more in articles in the last couple of months like it’s been focus tested or something.
