Canucks owner throws cold water on ESPN’s NBA-to-Vancouver prediction

Oh, did I forget to mention that there are rumors that if the Sacramento Kings move, it’ll be to Vancouver? That’s what ESPN’s Ric Bucher said on Monday (citing as a source — I am not making this up — the “NBA coconut-telegraph”), and yesterday Vancouver Canucks and Rogers Arena owner Francesco Aquilini fanned the flames by saying:

“I can tell you we don’t have any plans to bring an NBA team to Vancouver.”

Er. Well. Not so much for the flame-fanning then. But Aquilini did add that Vancouver has an arena ready to go, one that would be happy to host basketball, and that when the Vancouver Grizzlies played there, “there just wasn’t enough market support. If there was, they wouldn’t have left in the first place.”

Okay, this Aquilini guy is not playing along with the rumor mill at all. Man, is he going to be surprised when his coconut-telegraph rings and it’s David Stern on the line, cursing him out. In Morse code.
